The 2026-27 Award season at Memorial University began this year with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. That is followed by the Community Centre Alliance Awards, the School of Music Ceremony, a second Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science ceremony, and the Faculty of Business Administration Awards reception. In person events are always a great time to connect with scholarship recipients and FFF Alumni.
We also attend the prestigious Celebration of Excellence event which was an opportunity to join convocation medal recipients and award recipients, honorary doctorate honourees and special guests for an afternoon of joy, connection and well-earned recognition. |

Zaid Duraid is the recipient of the 2026-27 FFF Dean's Leadership Award in Engineering. Zaid was also named to the Class of 2027 Dean's List for the 2025-26 academic year. Zaid is a computer engineering student who completed grades 8 to 12 in Gander. His interests in engineering have largely centred on embedded systems, circuits, and programming. Throughout engineering, Zaid's main extracurricular activity has been with Eastern Edge Robotics. He joined the team in February of 2023 and became the software team lead in August of that year. Overall, Zaid has participated in three competitions with the team (achieving 11th, 8th, and 3rd place in the world). Throughout his degree, Zaid interned at NL Hydro, Avalon Holographics, Solace Power, and Tesla. He worked on things like FPGA verification for holographic displays, circuit design for wireless power systems, and firmware validation for electric vehicles. Zaid has also been involved with OmaScan, a startup developing an Occupational Therapist assessment platform, and has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his degree.
