Fry Family Foundation Bob Dawson Post-Secondary Scholarship, 2022
I am currently a first-year nursing student at the Centre for Nursing Studies. Prior to this, I was pursuing a Bachelor of Science at Memorial University. I’m originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Growing up, I always had an interest in the sciences, although I wasn’t always sure where that path would take me. Raised by a single mother who always believed in me, I was encouraged to chase my dreams no matter how big or uncertain they seemed. When the time came to graduate high school and begin university, I was excited but also nervous.
My journey with FFF began thanks to a wonderful woman named Ms. Enid at the Froude Avenue Community Centre. I started volunteering there in junior high, and it quickly became a place that offered me not only valuable experiences but also a strong sense of connection with my community. Through this connection, I was given the opportunity to apply for a scholarship that would help ease the financial pressures of pursuing post-secondary education. That opportunity led to me being awarded the Bob Dawson Scholarship, something I continue to feel incredibly proud and grateful for.
FFF has become more than just a financial supporter; you are a part of my support system, standing beside me throughout my educational journey. Their belief in me has made a real difference in my life, and I carry that with me every day as I work toward my goals.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. I hope that one day I’ll be able to give back and support others even if it’s only a fraction of what FFF has done for me.
