Government House Greenhouse
A 2023 monetary donation to the Government House Trust Fund from the Fry Family Foundation was directed towards costs associated with construction of the new greenhouse facility. Watch former Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote speak about the project and the community partners that will benefit from this initiative.
The Greenhouse was completed during the tenure of current Lieutenant Governor Joan Marie Aylward. FFF representatives attended a reception and update with other Friends of Government House Greenhouse in June, 2024. It was wonderful to hear that all the flowers used at the refurbished National War Memorial in St. John's were cultivated at the new Greenhouse. We were also delighted to attend the official opening on October 31, 2024.

The newest addition to the Government House grounds is the Community Room in the new greenhouse. This room will be available to community organizations and groups in summer 2024. It will provide an inviting space for organizations to enhance existing programming, such as mental health, wellness and arts programs, with a particular emphasis on youth, seniors, diversity and the vulnerable population. The space, which will be made available free of charge, has a kitchenette, accessible facilities, wireless internet, and 56 square meters of gathering space. They are currently reviewing requests from community user groups for the facility. Read more about the Community Room on the Government House website.
