School of Music Dean's Scholarship

Aleksandar Cupkovic is the recipient of the FFF School of Music Dean’s Scholarship for the 2023-24 scholarship year. Aleksandar graduated from Gonzaga High School in June 2023. His musical career started at the age of nine with piano lessons. He was quickly hooked and soon went on to play in the Kiwanis music festival, and to take yearly examinations from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Around this time he also began to participate in school ensembles, such as jazz, concert, and student showcase bands throughout junior high school and high school. Aleksandar has received multiple first place awards in the Kiwanis Music Festival, most recently in the Junior 17 Concert Group for piano, and was also the Junior Instrumental Rose Bowl Runner-Up. He is also the keyboardist in a small band called Road De Luxe. Outside of the piano, Aleksander also has proficiency in mallet percussion, bass, drums, and trombone. He says, "I want to pursue music as I believe that it brings out emotions and feelings that can't be described, and has the incredible power to help others through many difficult situations. I hope that one day I can do the same for someone else with my music that the music of others has done for me, and I believe the award will help me achieve such a goal." such a goal.

Holly Clarke is the recipient of the FFF Dean's Leadership Award in Engineering. Holly is a Process Engineering Student (class of ’24) and has been working to support the future engineering community since her first year. In 2020, Holly co-founded Robogals Memorial University, a student group designed to help create a safe space for everyone in STEM fields by engaging, inspiring, and empowering the next generation of engineers and technologists. As Co-President of Robogals, Holly has developed curriculums for and ran over 20 workshops in elementary schools across Newfoundland and organized three yearly community events for children of all ages to explore STEM. In addition to Robogals, Holly was elected the junior and then senior VP External for the MUN Engineering Student Society ‘A’ where she represented MUN engineering students on a regional and national level. In her over three years on the engineering society, Holly helped run events to better the university experience of her fellow engineering students. In 2022 Holly was elected by engineering students across Atlantic Canada to represent them as Atlantic Ambassador on the board of directors of the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) for the 2023-2024 academic year. As Atlantic Ambassador, Holly oversees and votes on all decisions made by the CFES to ensure that they are in the best interests of engineering students across the nine Atlantic universities.
