FFF Ralph Vincent Memorial Business Scholarship recipient receives more accolades [April 2025]

Nathan Young was awarded the 2021-22 FFF Ralph Vincent Memorial Business Scholarship and is a FFF Alumni Network member. He is one of eight business students across Atlantic Canada to win a $45,000 Frank H. Sobey Award for Excellence in Business Studies this year. The award recognizes entrepreneurial students for their academic achievements and university and community leadership. A Torbay native, Nathan will graduate with joint degrees of commerce (co-operative) and arts in economics this spring. Read more about Nathan Young in Highest Heights.
Myovine Honoured with FFF Award at the 2025 Mel Woodward Cup [March 2025]

Myovine, a Newfoundland-based biotech startup, has been honoured with the Fry Family Foundation Award for Women or Non-Binary Leadership at the 2025 Mel Woodward Cup! Founded by Memorial University engineering students, Myovine is transforming physiotherapy with technology that tracks patient progress, enhancing recovery and treatment compliance. "Their commitment to leveraging technology for social good aligns with the Fry Family Foundation’s mission to support leadership that drives positive change." FFF presents MUN MCE awards to increase participation of women/non-binary students [March 2025]

All teams in the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship (MCE) 2025 Mel Woodward Cup showed remarkable innovation and vision and the judges had a tough decision. Student-led startups offering solutions to health-care problems were the big winners at the ninth annual Mel Woodward Cup. .The 2025 Champion is Kierep Enterprise and Runner-up is NutraForge. Winners of the Fry Family Foundation awards were Myovine - awarded the Entrepreneurship Award for Women/ Non-Binary Leadership; and BracedMind Wellness - awarded the Entrepreneurship Award for an Early-stage Idea. Many of the students and companies involved in this competition are also supported through FFF sponsored entrepreneurial work terms at MCE and programs at Genesis. Read more in Inspiring Innovations.
Dr. Kshama Roy named to Memorial University's Centennial 100 [March 2025]

The Centennial 100 celebrates students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters who have made a world of difference at Memorial University and who have helped the university make a difference in the world. A huge congratulations to FFF Alumni Dr. Kshama Roy on being named in the Champion category for the athletes, supporters and activists who have led the charge! Dr. Roy is the only person to ever receive the Chancellor’s Graduate Award and the FFF Graduate Leadership Award twice, in 2013 and 2018. Read more at Leading the way. Marine Institute Nautical Science Students put their offshore skills to the test [February 2025]

Nautical Science and Marine Engineering students participated in the 13th Annual Nautical Skills Competition at the Marine Institute. This event challenges students to tackle high-pressure real life scenarios at sea. Three FFF Alumni volunteered at this event. It was a great opportunity for future maritime leaders to showcase their skills, decision-making, and teamwork in real-time simulations. Events like this help bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of a career at sea, preparing students for the challenges ahead. Watch the CBC news clip. Genesis Evolution Finalists compete in Pitch & Pick Competition [November 2024]
Congratulations to the six companies that competed at the 2024 Pitch & Pick Competition. First place was awarded to Weeva and Runner Up was Hadamard AI. The Fry Family Foundation Belonging Award went to Beena Founders Ayush Neupane and Dikson Rajbanshi for their resilience and dedication to the Genesis core values of community, collaboration, and continuous improvement. FFF Supports the Oxen Pond Environmental Education & Recreation Program at MUN Botanical Garden [August 2024]

This initiative promises to be a cornerstone for community programming at the Botanical Garden in the years to come. The program is designed to intertwine kayaking and environmental stewardship, creating unique experiences for young minds to thrive in the beauty of nature. FFF commitment ensures startup funding for the program from the pilot programming this past summer to the continual development and expansion through 2026. FFF Graduate Leadership Award recipient receives more accolades [June and February 2024]

Dr. Christie Costello is the 2023-24 recipient of the Chancellor’s Graduate Award and the Fry Family Foundation Graduate Leadership Award. FFF Undergraduate Leadership Award recipient raises $28.6 million in Series 'B' Funding [May 2024]

Newfoundland’s CoLab Software has raised $28.6 million CAD ($21 million USD) in Series B funding as it looks to expand its team and incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its engineering design collaboration and communications platform. CoLab was founded by Memorial University Engineering graduates, Adam Keating and Jeremy Andrews. FFF Scholarship recipient named prestigious National Award Recipient [May 2024]

Nicholas Qiu received the 2022-23 FFF Hugh J. Anderson Chemistry Scholarship at Memorial University and was just named a 3M National Student Fellow! Nicholas is also a member of Shallaway Youth Choir and volunteers with the FFF supported Neuro-diverse Lauda Ensemble. FFF Scholarship recipient wins National competition [April 2024]

In March, a team of four business students won the John Molson School of Business Van Berkom Small-cap Case Competition. The Van Berkom team members are undergraduate business students Aryan Falke, Russell Noseworthy, Nathan Young and Pedro Gruner. Nathan Young was awarded the 2021-22 FFF Ralph Vincent Memorial Business Scholarship. FFF presents 6 Leadership Awards to Marine Institute Students at the 2024 Winter Award Ceremony [March 2024]

The Winter Scholarship and Awards Ceremony was held at Marine Institute on March 7, 2024. FFF Leadership Awards were given to Avery Decker, Hannah Steele, Carina Korchoski, Jenna Ryan, Eugenie Jacobsen and Aiden Parsons. Enactus Memorial team co-president and FFF Leadership Award recipient wins regional competition [March 2024]

FFF MI Leadership Award recipient creates Marine Institute podcast [January and March 2024]

Eugenie Jacobsen is a PhD student in Fisheries Science and this year's recipient of the Fry Family Foundation Graduate Leadership Award at Marine Institute. In September 2023, they started the WaveCast podcast at the Marine Institute. The aim of the podcast was to share stories, offer advice, and share program offerings at the school. Through the biweekly episodes, they have been able to create a strong sense of community echoing through the school. Faculty, students, and staff have been keen to chat with them about their research, their student experiences, and their roles at the school. Eugenie also received this prestigious Award in 2021-22 when she was completing a Master of Science in Fisheries Science and Technology. Recipient of the FFF Entrepreneurship Award for Women named Best University Startup in the World [November 2022, March 2023, May 2024]

Congratulations to PragmaClin Research Inc. on being named the overall winner for early-stage startups at the global finals of the University Startup World Cup 2022. Startup companies were pitching and competing against hundreds of startups from more than 50 different countries world wide. In March of 2022, PragmaClin Research were awarded the FFF Entrepreneurship Award for Women and Non-binary Leadership and the top prize in the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship's 2022 Mel Woodward Cup Competition. Co-founders Bronwyn Bridges and Gord Genge developed and designed a remote patient monitoring system for Parkinson’s disease.
