Fry Family Foundation Undergraduate Leadership Award, 2011
Receiving this award in Grade 9 was truly the spark that lit my leadership and academic journey.
As a child from a family where no one had a university education, this award was really the first insight into my options for post-secondary education. It was the first time someone told me: “You are a leader, you have potential, and you can do great things for this world.”
Not only did it help with the great financial burden of pursuing a university education, but it provided the inspiration to continue my commitment to others through leadership and volunteering opportunities in the years to follow. I was able to pursue both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in psychology, and Medical School at Memorial. Since then, I have completed my medical residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary where I now work in general practice, women’s health, and low-risk obstetrics.
Thank you for continuing to provide inspiration, support, and recognition to our young leaders. I assure you, it is of great importance and great influence.
