Scholarship Celebration Event
A luncheon was held on September 12, 2019 to celebrate this year's Fry Family Foundation Award winners. This was a wonderful opportunity for Darryl and Marlene Fry, as well as many of those involved with the Fry Family Foundation, to meet with College staff and Award winners. Wylie O'Keefe, winner of the James Sellars Apprenticeship Award in the Welder Program at the Placentia Campus, spoke about what winning this award meant to him. Other Award winners attending the event from the Prince Philip Drive Campus included Sashana Thomas, in the Computer Systems & Networking Program and Teresita Swain, in the Textiles: Craft & Apparel Design Program.

Cameron won the Fry Family Foundation CNA Leadership Achievement Award for the Seal Cove Campus where he is enrolled in the Powerline Technician program. Sashana won the Fry Family Foundation CNA Leadership Achievement Award for the Prince Philip Drive Campus where she is studying Computer Systems & Networking.

Award Spotlight - James Sellars Apprenticeship Award
This is awarded annually to three Welder students and three Construction/Industrial Electrician students. Each student will receive $1000 cash, $1000 toward a toolkit and an additional $5000 when they achieve journey person status. The award was established to honour the memory of James Sellars, father of Marlene (Sellars) Fry. Mr.Sellars was the first plumber in Newfoundland to receive his Master Plumber Certificate. Holly Sheppard is pictured to the left receiving her award. Holly attends the Labrador West campus and is enrolled in the Construction/Industrial Electrician program.

Clarice Goodyear, Friend of the Fry Family Foundation, attended the 2019 graduation ceremony for the Gander Campus on behalf of the Foundation. The Fry Family Foundation Leadership Achievement Award is given to a first year/entrance student at each of the 17 CNA campuses. It is awarded to a student who has been making a difference in their communities and who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership. The award for this campus was given to Muhammad Sikander Shahzad, a first year student in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technician Program. He also completed the Aircraft Structural Repair Technician program last year. Muhammed plans to eventually become a pilot, which he will be able to achieve in Gander. He is an Honours student and serves on the Student Council.
