Fry Family Foundation Junior Leadership Award, 2007
Please accept my sincerest gratitude for your generous support of not only myself, but so many young leaders over the last 25 years. I am very honoured to have been chosen for the Fry Family Foundation Junior Leadership Award, which opened many doors for me and helped me develop my leadership skills. Taking part in the LEAP event gave me the confidence I needed to take on university life, and the money I received as part of the award relieved financial stress as it went towards my school and living expenses, and the high costs of travelling from Labrador.
After graduating from high school in 2010, I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree at Memorial University in 2018 (majoring in geography and minoring in business administration) through a combination of full time and part time studies online and on campuses throughout the province. I worked full time while completing my degree part time which allowed me to graduate debt free, while gaining new skills and professional experience. I also graduated with a post-graduate certificate in Quality Management from the Marine Institute in 2020. In 2018, I was selected to participate in the International Youth Internship Program for six months in Vietnam, and that was truly a life changing experience!
I am currently working with SmartICE as the Northern Communications Lead where I am executing the organization’s communications strategy. I was hired through the Canada’s Ocean Supercluster Indigenous Career Pivot Project, and I am learning so much in this new role. I am proud to work for an organization that has such a positive impact on so many people’s lives across the North.
