The impact this award had on my high school life was tremendous. It gave me the confidence and courage to do better with my academics. I became the president of my student council and became a tutor and a peer helper/big brother. Being from a small town it gave me the drive to set and achieve goals. I went from playing regional volleyball amongst the small surrounding communities to playing volleyball for the provincial team for 3 consecutive years and attending 21U nationals.
I always knew that I wanted to join the Canadian Armed Forces. After a year at Memorial I joined the military, and I am proud to say I have been serving as a Medical Technician ever since, now in Halifax at the base clinic, treating military personnel alongside military and civilian doctors and nurses. I was recently deployed to Manitoba this past year to help out with the high numbers of COVID-positive patients.
