Luke Pike completed a Bachelor of Science, joint honours, at MUN in chemistry and biochemistry. He is also the 2007 NL Rhodes Scholar. Through the Rhodes, Luke went on to complete a Ph.D. in medical oncology at Oxford University. After Oxford, Luke pursued a medical degree at the Yale School of Medicine and did further work in translational research with Dr. Peter Glazer, chair of radiation oncology, helping to develop novel therapeutics to target cancer cells that are deficient in certain types of DNA repair. During these years, he was elected to the MUN Board of Regents, serving a three-year term. Since that time, Luke has worked as a resident physician at Harvard University in Boston, splitting his time between the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Boston Children's Hospital. He has authored more than 20 peer review articles in esteemed journals such as Oncogene, Cancer, Cancer Research, JNCCN, and Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology on his work in cancer research.
In 2020, Luke was named to the NL Health Innovation Business Advisory Committee which advises Eastern Health’s Living Lab Governance Committee on current and emerging issues/trends related to the development, commercialisation and uptake of innovative technologies and practices.
