FFF Supports MUN Engineering Community Service Work Terms [March 2021]
We are proud to partner with MUN's Faculty of Engineering to support the Community Service Learning Work Term Program. In one of these projects, Jeremy Gates and Maria Outerbridge worked as a team to design solutions for revitalizing an existing greenhouse situated on the property of Government House in St. John’s. New Award: MUN School of Music Dean's Scholarship [October 2020]
We are excited to partner with one of Canada's leading music schools to offer a prestigious new entrance scholarship. Andrew Dunphy is the first recipient of the Fry Family Foundation School of Music Dean's Scholarship. Andrew is a first year student at Memorial University School of Music and graduated with honours from Bayview Academy in St. Georges, NL. Andrew plans to complete his undergraduate degree and pursue a career in music.
FFF MUN Graduate Leadership Award Recipient is a "Double Winner" [September 2020]
Gaylene Russell McEvoy is the recipient of the 2020 MUN Chancellor's/Fry Family Foundation Graduate Leadership Award. Gaylene completed her Bachelor of Science at MUN before completing her Master of Science in Medicine (Cardiovascular Sciences). She has volunteered with MUN Minds, Special Olympics NL and MUN Medical School Graduate Society. Gaylene is now completing her PhD which is focused on identifying blood flow regulation mechanisms that are impaired by type 2 diabetes. FFF MUN Undergraduate Leadership Award Recipient is a "Double Winner" [August 2020]
Dr. Travis Pickett is the recipient of the 2020 MUN Chancellor's/ Fry Family Foundation Undergraduate Leadership Award. He is one of the founders of PolyUnity Tech Inc which acted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to produce face-shields for frontline workers in collaboration with Task Force NL. In 2018 Travis was also the recipient of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award. Dr. Pickett is currently working with the University of Ottawa completing his residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Read about Dr. Pickett's Double Win.
FFF MUN Leadership Award Winner writes about the "COVID cohort" [May 2020]
Michael O'Keefe won the 2018 MUN Chancellor's/Fry Family Foundation Undergraduate Leadership Award. Michael is also Newfoundland and Labrador's 2018 Rhodes Scholar. This prestigious scholarship has provided him with the opportunity to attend the University of Oxford where he is currently studying for a Master of Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government. Community Centre Alliance hosts Food Now Fundraiser [May 2020]
The St. John's Community Centres teamed up with Mary Walsh and friends to raise money to provide meals and grocery gift cards to those who need it. Kim White, General Manager of the CCA said, "We have witnessed many people unable to access food or support services in our city, including children, families, seniors and persons living with disabilities.... Many food programs and food support services in the city were put on pause because of the pandemic. The Alliance realized that we needed to step in and help." FFF 'Best of the Best' Award winner inducted into CBHA Hall of Fame [August 2019]
Bob Dawson, Executive Director of the Froude Avenue Community Centre, was named as one of Fry Family Foundation's 'Best of the Best’ two years ago. He was recently inducted into the Canadian Ball Hockey Association Hall of Fame. See the video and hear Bob's inspiring message HERE.

Darryl Fry inducted into the Order of Newfoundland [January 2019]
The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador (ONL) is the highest honour of the province. The object of the order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents.
