Town of Grand Bank
Fry Family Foundation co-founder, Marlene Fry, has deep roots in the town of Grand Bank. Her grandfather, Abraham Dolimount was a cook on the Grand Bank schooner Mable Dorothy for many years. Her grandmother, Charlotte Dolimount raised 11 children in very difficult times while her husband was at sea. The Foundation has supported two initiatives in their honour involving the Town of Grand Bank over the past 25 years.
Charlotte Penwell Dolimount Memorial Scholarship
This Fry Family Foundation scholarship for Memorial University was named in honour of Marlene Fry's grandmother, who was from Grand Bank, NL. Charlotte Penwell Dolimount raised and helped educate her 11 children. The scholarship has been awarded to 27 graduates of high schools in Grand Bank and Fortune since 1997. Past Partnership: The Mariners Memorial
The Foundation is also proud to have supported the establishment of the provincial Mariners Memorial in 2005 to honour thousands of lost mariners and also pay tribute to the women who had to endure the loss of their men. Read more about this project.
