Our Founders
Darryl & Marlene Fry remain actively involved in the Fry Family Foundation. They divide their time between Florida, New Mexico and Ontario. They maintain a strong commitment to the people of their home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Connectivity to the organizations they support and meeting with scholarship recipients are important for the Fry family.

Darryl Fry - Biography
Darryl Fry was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University and later received a Chemical Engineering degree from the Nova Scotia Technical College.
Darryl was the visionary behind the development and growth of Cytec Industries Inc., a global specialty chemicals and materials technology company, with 5000 employees. He began his career with American Cyanamid Company - he rose rapidly to senior positions and led the spin-off of Cyanamid’s chemical business to found Cytec in 1993 serving as Chairman and CEO from its formation until his retirement in 1998. Cytec Industries focused on developing, manufacturing and selling products that serve diverse global markets, including aerospace, plastics, industrial coatings, mining and water treatment. He always set and achieved extremely high objectives. His growth strategies were based on developing technologically advanced customer solutions for global markets.
Darryl served as a member of the Board of Directors for five companies and lectured at a number of business schools. He applied those same skills he used in the business world as he built the Fry Family Foundation. Darryl’s business career has resulted in him receiving a number of awards and honours in St. John’s, New York City and Washington D.C. In January 2019, Darryl Fry was inducted into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Marlene Fry - Biography
Marlene Fry (née Sellars) was also born in St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. She’s been married to Darryl Fry for over 50 years and they have two daughters, April and Cheryl, and three grandchildren. Marlene was a graduate of Prince of Wales College and attended Memorial University’s Faculty of Education. She was employed as a Teacher in St. John’s and in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Marlene is also a Graduate of Nichols State University, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts, Education and from William Paterson University, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts, Finance. She was also employed with the State of New Jersey, Department of Taxation. Marlene’s many volunteer positions have involved Parent Teacher Associations in Niagara Falls, Ontario; Luling, Louisiana; and Smoke Rise, New Jersey. She also volunteers with the Food Bank in Santa Fe, New Mexico and at The Haven in Sarasota, Florida. Some of Marlene’s other activities include Bridge, Golf, Downhill Skiing and Hiking.
