Dr. Travis Pickett is the recipient of the Chancellor's Undergraduate Award and the Fry Family Foundation Undergraduate Leadership Award. Travis completed his Honours in Biochemistry at MUN prior to entering MUN's MD program. Throughout medical school, Travis  sought to engage colleagues and peers in opportunities for both the arts as well as technology in medicine. He was the founder and curator of the Faculty of Medicine's inaugural live art gallery, show-casing works of art from medical students, graduate students, faculty and staff over three days. Travis was an integral member in the sustainability and expansion of NL's first biomedical three-dimensional (3D) printing facility, which has now expanded into Med 3D Network, a multi-centre rural 3D printing network across NL. He is one of the founders of PolyUnity Tech Inc which acted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to produce face-shields for frontline workers in collaboration with Task Force NL. In 2018 Travis was the recipient of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award. Dr. Pickett is currently working with the University of Ottawa completing his residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Read about Dr. Pickett's Double Win and his company PolyUnity in NL's Response to PPE crunch is here: First locally made face shields used in surgery.
